Wave Punk rock in Turkish (Part 1: Rashit)

Rock is booming in Turkish music. Each month, new groups are formed and are about them.

I recently discovered the existence of the Turkish punk and I found an opportunity for me to briefly introduce some punk bands that stand out.

The first punk band I've heard is Rashit and it was during their "second album" official in 2003 , entitled "Ben Adam Olmak Istemiyorum " ("I want to become a man, me").
I was at that time particularly surprised by the sound and the originality of the group. I had never heard of it! And for good reason, Rashi is pure punk and we can say that it is THE punk band from Turkey, the first to be allowed to provide its credentials to the genre.
Indeed, 1999, the band released what is considered the first official album of punk Turkey (until then, the houses and the general public had no interest in punk obviously, not to mention censorship):

" Telas Mahal Yok" ("No room to panic") will remain in history as the first punk album officially released in Turkey. While the group exists since 1993, it will have taken 6 years for Rashit can finally market their music to the general public.

Here is the album "Adam Olmak Istemiyorum ," released in 2003 , who introduced me Rashit and thereby the punk a Turk.
I must admit that it was not then my favorite album in any genre, certainly because of side too "new" of the thing.
We must realize that punk albums were not many at that time and that the radios and other Turkish TV channels did not spend that kind of music.
was also the time when I discovered the Turkish rock, more conventional, with artists like Teoman mainly.

short, "Adam Olmak Istemiyorum" is a pure punk album, listen for lovers of nature. In

2004, we may note a small French record company, "Darbuka Records, released an album of Rashi in complete confidentiality. So as an anecdote that I mention. ^ _ ^

2006, new album entitled "Her Seyin Bedell Bir Var (" Everything has a price ") Album of the dedication media. Rashit no longer a group known as purists, but truly became an icon, a showcase of punk with the Turkish media. Suddenly, the TV channels, radio stations go all the group's latest single " Teker Teker " ("one by one").

Today Rashit is a rock band like any other, which has the distinction of claiming a spirit and a punk legacy, even if it no longer feels bound as much as on previous albums by the group : effect of maturity, no doubt!
But the fact remains that when we speak of Turkish punk, "rash" is the first name that comes to mind.
The next generation is already large and serious, I will speak later in the second part of "The Wave Punk rock in Turkish." ;)

soon.

Focus on Dorian, Anima & Pinhan!

I just noticed that this blog had not been updated since ... January 21, 2006!
No, I'm not making excuses, although I admit that the temptation is strong ... good going, I start since January, I discovered lots of bands, too many groups to tell the truth because I have plenty of choice there to make articles ... and when one is spoiled for choice, hey well we care about nothing!

short, I will still do a quick overview of the latest developments in the Turkish group, history of updating this blog unique. : D

> Dorian

A very young group, which I discovered very nice clip from October to November (ooh it's remooonte) entitled " Bakmi Yüzüme " meaning " Do not look at me in the face ".
I immediately fell under the spell of his very this group metal, a sound that really is not customary in Current Turkish groups, although some are in very noisy (Deja vu).
Dorian was born in 2000, but we will say that the current formula of the group dates back to 2002.

" Yeniden Hayata (" alive again ") is their first album (yes, anyway a lot of bands I listen to now are in their debut album ...: D ).
Dorian is a kind of Cilek has more of maturity: no compromise sound, the ears of listeners will not be formed from one end to another of the album. The album is true to the style of the group from beginning to end: "Dipti " ("Deep") " Zor" ("Hard"), "Porno SEZAR ", although many pieces violent. My favorite track is "Bakmi Yüzüme", with its ubiquitous percussion. I also like "Gel Gör Beni " ("Come See About Me"), with its eastern side and very genuine.

short, an album to listen, even if some find it too "raw." : D

> Anima

group born in the early 2000 (see bah ...: p) first album entitled " Animasal ", released in February 2006.
The album name is a pun as "Masala" means "fairytale" in Turkish. ;)

I discovered this band through a video clip broadcast on Turkish music channels: " Joker," a rock song enough speed but not very original and definitely not at all the image of the album.
Indeed, the 14 songs that comprise this album are very different from each other. The general atmosphere is of sobriety to the total opposite of the single released in stores.
Much "Joker" you break the ears (in the negative sense), as titles like "El Kadar Bir Kiz " ("A Girl held in the hand") takes you in a good and a joie de vivre want to pick flowers, or as "Son Sarki " ("Last Song" ... evocative title because it is actually the last album title) introduces you to his trial.
short, it is certainly the most original album I have ever heard, so the style is pure, simple, mesmerizing. Lovers of peace, listen Anima!

> Pinhan

So be careful! Big favorite!

Pinhan is a very young group. Obviously.
They just released last April their first album entitled " Inandigin Masallar " ("The stories that you think") is a pure gem.
Acoustic Guitar, voice calm, sober, melancholic melodies to make you wet your eyes Pinhan deserves to be known.

I discovered this band by pure chance on the web. Suffice to say that it did not really necessary for formatting a broadcast TV / radio mass and yet he has his fans!

At the base formed by two cousin and cousin (the singer and bassist), this group intends to contrast with other rock bands through simple foolproof. No
look fashionable, flashy site (Flash and Pinhan ...), almost to look like a local!

I appreciate all the tracks from their debut album, but I still say that my favorites are " Nasil Ben Büyük adam olacam " ("How do I become someone great") or "Don bak Dunai" ("Look at the world"), a real message of love of life.

To discover urgently!

That's all for this first little tour d'horizon of the new groups emerging from the Turkish rock scene.
I hope it has given you the urge to discover, believe me they deserve it!

soon friends. ;)

SÓ LÉsbicas Nuas

Cilek, suffering as a credo ...

Cilekes

In October 2002 that Cilek (pronounced " Tchilékesh " and has approximately the meaning of "martyr" or "who revels in the suffering" - sorry could not be more specific than that but the Turkish language has sometimes unfathomable subtleties!) was born from the hands of: Görkem Karabudak , vocals, Ali Güçlü guitar, Sedat Oguzsoy on bass and Cumhur Avcil to the battery.

They gave their first concert in November 2002 in Ankara Saklikent , a trendy place in the capital. In

2003, they participate in a talent contest sponsored by the brand Fanta and then earn a berth in the national final, where they distinguished themselves before a prestigious jury, inter alia, Teoman (he was not only reassure you, but it would serve no purpose that I give you other names, they will tell you nothing - and I either: D)
same year and the year following a series of concerts in Ankara will still talk group.

Following this contest, members of Cilek germinate saw in them the desire to work on an album in conjunction with their concerts, and relying on their reputation tiny freshly acquired.
But the highlight will be their series of concerts in 17 cities and approximately 350 to 000 spectators, alongside singers known as Candan Erçetin (a famous Turkish singer, patch very pleasant and has already made an album of covers in French ) or Nev. (one of my favorite artists, Nev., I love it). Cilek acquires almost the reputation of a professional group so they are amateur.

Finally, in March 2005 begins recording their album in MIAM studios. The album, entitled " YOK ." (NOTHING), then lands ONAIR the producer in June 2005, which will distribute the group.

The words and music are all of the group, but the fact remains that some artists have participated in the album as guest musicians: we can come back and the drummer Kurban, Burak Gürpinar, or Divine Aylin Aslim .

Kerem Karabudak (vocals) :

He began piano at age 5 years and it's a little true virtuoso on the violin. He set up the group while still at the conservatory in 2002.
can say it is the natural leader of the group even if he tends to be back on the different pictures of the group.
It has the distinction of having a very soft voice, contrasting completely with the voices found in the traditionally neometal. You could say he has more the tone of voice of a guy who would sing in Sevran Sunday at noon, so he's worth!
Moreover, we must know it is very good friends with another young group of neo-metal music that much cartons: Deja vu , where he participated in two pieces on the violin (his instrument of choice): Adin Neyde "(" What was your name? ") and" Yeter Artik "(" That's enough now ").

Sedat Oguzsoy (bass) :

He was born in Ankara, but did most of his schooling in Istanbul. It was in college he began playing the bass. Cilek he joined in October 2004.

Güçlü Ali Simsek (guitar) :

He was born in Kadikoy (Asian side of Istanbul) and raised in Bursa (a city of one million people located not very far from Istanbul).
He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and studied French philology at the University (philology is to study a language but a historical perspective). He already knew
Cumhur Avcil, the drummer, in Bursa. It is through him that he became acquainted with Görkem: all three, they got the group Cilek.

Cumhur Avcil (drums):

He was born in Bursa. It was in high school for boys he took courses in music and began playing the drums.
During these years he has played in many groups.
Having had a degree in psychology, he left and moved to Bursa Ankara. There, he set up a studio and worked as a technician for a few festivals. There is also a lot of dishes. In November 2002, at the same time that the group is created, he became the drummer Cilek.

Their first album, with a cover that illustrates very well the group name ...

You'll understand the name of the group, Cilek deals with themes of suffering, loneliness, remorse ... In short, if you search the words gay, make your way!
The melodies are commensurate with the words: no concessions, we are here to make you move.
Moreover, the first single was immediately set the tone: "YOK" deals with loneliness, of course, just listen to the chorus:

Elimden Sey Gelmer BIH, BIH Carema yok
Nothing happens in the hands, I no cure

Karanlik sokaklarda sesimi duyan yok bu
In these dark streets, nobody hears my voice

Elimden Sey Gelmer BIH, BIH Carema yok
Nothing happens in the hands, I no cure

Karanlik elimi tutan yok bu sokaklarda
In these dark streets, nobody is there to take my hand

Words that evoke the desperation and loneliness, "YOK" is clearly distinguished from other songs heard on the radio and TV, impossible to miss!

The official website of the group, you'll find lots of pictures (not greedy at this level and for a recent group is also rare to have such a site offering lots of photos!), the lyrics of the album and obviously the latter extracts for free download.
